Woman faces DUI, homicide charges in fatal wrong-way crash on Selmon Expressway

A Plant City woman is facing criminal charges in connection to a wrong-way crash that killed another driver on the Selmon Expressway last month.

Sarah Beverly Downing, 40, was arrested Dec. 30 on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. Downing is accused of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of a Dec. 7 crash that killed Ricardo Tishane Laird, 33, of Orlando, according to court documents.

The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. as Downing was driving a Honda Fit west in the eastbound lanes of the expressway, according to an arrest affidavit. Just east of the Hyde Park Avenue exit, Downing crashed head-on into Laird as he drove east in a Toyota Yaris…
