Fayetteville woman killed in shooting dedicated her life to helping others

The grief-stricken husband of a woman killed off Murchison Road on Monday said his wife dedicated her life to helping others.

Jylin Matute-Ayala, 22, was found about 8 a.m. Monday fatally shot in the 700 block of Topeka Street.

Her husband, Cris Puente-Mendoza, said Friday that he was at work in Durham when he got the news from his mother-in-law around 3 p.m. Monday. Puente-Mendoza said he has no idea why his wife was in the area where she was slain because it is across the city from their home on Pamalee Drive. He said she was on her way to work at a Spring Lake group home for adults, which is also not near the location where she was killed…
