Montgomery, AL – A winter storm has left roads across Alabama covered in ice, making travel hazardous or impossible in several areas. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid travel as crews work to clear and treat roadways.
According to updates from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), portions of U.S. 31 in Montgomery County and Interstate 65 in Lowndes County are experiencing icy conditions. In Macon County, U.S. 29 northbound near Alabama 186 is blocked due to a jackknifed tractor-trailer, while U.S. 80 eastbound near Brown Road in Tuskegee remains icy.
In southern Alabama, all roads in Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, and Henry counties are impassable due to heavy ice and snow. Roadways in Houston County, including U.S. 84 eastbound at Boy Scout Road, are also blocked by jackknifed commercial vehicles.
