‘Preparing for the worst?’: City of Bakersfield looking to update its fire emergency master plan

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ( KGET ) — The threat of the potential for wildfires was seen closer this week after the Hughes Fire forced a temporary shut down of Interstate 5 through the Grapevine Wednesday.

“Can that happen here in Bakersfield? Potentially, yes,” said Bakersfield Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Anderson during Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

“Those are very scary things,” Bakersfield Vice Mayor Manpreet Kaur said. “We want to make sure the residents know that we are doing everything we can to make sure our city is safe.”
