The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of numerous fraudulent posts and compromised Facebook accounts, which are scamming people out of money.
Deputies say a common scenario involves a Facebook friend claiming a relative has passed away or is moving into a nursing home and is selling their possessions at unusually low prices. Another common scenario, officials say, is when the “seller” states they are out of town or unable to meet in person, requesting a deposit to hold the item.
