After serving the Kalamazoo community for the past year, Barrio Tacos + Tequila + Whiskey is now moving to South Haven, according to an update shared on the restaurant’s website . The restaurant opened at 215 E. Michigan Ave on Jan. 14, 2024. and is now moving to 248 Broadway St in South Haven this spring.
“We decided to relocate because we felt that South Haven was a better business opportunity. Unfortunately downtown Kalamazoo didn’t take off as we expected and we were forced to make a quick decision about our future,” Jake Hawley , who owns all of Barrio’s Michigan locations, told What Now Detroit in an email.
The new space will have all the familiar elements that made locals love the taco spot, including another mural created by Ohio-based Eileen Dorsey, the same artist who painted the mural at the original Kalamazoo location. According to Hawley, the South Haven location will have “120 seats inside and 100+ seats between the outdoor patio and roof top” with a decent-sized bar on the inside and a large rooftop bar. The three garage doors on the building will also be utilized during warmer days to allow the vibrance of South Haven downtown flood right into the dining room…
