Prince George’s County firefighters urge caution during winter months

NEW CARROLLTON, MD ( DC News Now ) — Fire officials in Prince George’s County are urging homeowners to be cautious during the winter months. Firefighters have responded to several recent house fires including one Friday morning.

Crews responded to a house fire Friday morning at 7:40 AM in the 8300 block of Nicholson Street in New Carrollton. There were no injuries, but firefighter Brian Clark said this can serve as a reminder to be careful.

A few important tips include making sure you have a working smoke detector, using caution if operating a space heater and being careful when using a wood-burning fireplace.

“If you have a fireplace, please make sure you clean it out and make sure you don’t have excessive amounts of build-up or cracks in the chimney. Chimney fires are not a joke. Do not ever burn anything in your fireplace aside from natural hardwoods and don’t ever burn anything that’s pine” Clark said…
