Settlement reached in St. Louis County Councilmember nepotism case

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A settlement was reached Friday in a case of nepotism brought against St. Louis County Councilmember Dennis Hancock.

The case against Hancock, brought by former Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell, accused him of hiring his stepdaughter to work in his office. Hancock told First Alert 4 last year that he attempted to hire his stepdaughter but claimed the paperwork was never finished and that she was never paid as an employee.

The office’s new prosecuting attorney, Melissa Price Smith, announced she is settling the case instead of continuing with litigation. Price Smith’s office said continuing with the litigation could take a year or more to resolve and cost St. Louis County taxpayers an estimated $100,000…
