After crash and closure, work on 144th Avenue bridge expected to begin

DORR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Work is set to begin next week on the 144th Avenue overpass in Dorr Township, local authorities say.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the overpass needs a beam replaced after a semi-truck on US-131 crashed into it at the end of December. The bridge has been closed ever since.

A spokesperson for MDOT previously told News 8 that the bridge would remain closed until a temporary concrete barrier could be installed. Then, a lane would open on the north side of the bridge, and both directions of traffic would alternate using temporary traffic signals.

That initial work is set to take place Thursday and Friday, according to the Dorr Township Fire Department. The fire department reports that northbound US-131 will be reduced to one lane starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, and there will be a full shutdown from 10 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday…
