A carjacking incident in Benton Park has residents on high alert. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s District 3 officers were called to the 3300 block of Lemp last Friday, following a report of a stolen vehicle. According to the victim, a 53-year-old man, the incident took place just before 9 p.m. while he was waiting inside his white Audi Q5 for a friend to enter a house after being dropped off.
While seated in his vehicle, two men approached with sudden haste. The report provided by the SLMPD indicates that one of the assailants brandished a firearm, threatening the man with chilling directness, demanding that he exit the car. Complying with the carjackers, the man watched as they commandeered his luxury SUV and swiftly disappeared into the night, taking the Audi with them.
The victim offered a description of the suspects, which has been disseminated amongst the law enforcement community in hopes of apprehending the perpetrators. However, as of now, no arrests have been made. The communities in and around Benton Park, while no strangers to the ever-present possibility of urban crime, are coming to terms with the audacity of such acts of flagrancy.
