“I maintained that it was, and I still support that,” Laks said.
Last month, the Delmar native was named president of The Broadway League , the national trade association representing Broadway producers, theater owners and operators, and national tour presenters in over 250 cities. In this role, Laks is letting his theater family roots guide him.
While Laks knew he was not destined for a career on the stage, he had hoped he would find his way back to theater. He graduated from Cornell University’s law program with a focus on labor law in 1997, and in 2012, a friend shared a job posting from the Broadway League. Laks joined as the director of labor relations for five years, then, following four years at NBC Universal, returned as general counsel for the league in 2021.
