Life skills are a very important thing that I think kids in the Amarillo area end up missing out on. We learn all about how to do math. We learn formulas. We learn about the history of our great country. We end up growing up and moving out and sometimes do not know the basics of life.
Unless we spend time with our parents in the kitchen, we have no idea how to cook. Unless someone takes us outside and teaches us basic car maintenance, we are set up to be taken to a shop. Unless we learn some basic sewing, we will count on others for an easy stitch job.
That is one of the big differences between when I went to school and when my daughter did. I took a Home Economics class in school, but she didn’t have the option. I learned how to sew and the valuable lesson that a clove of garlic is not a whole bulb of garlic. There is a difference. That is something that sticks with me to this day.
