Rapper Sues Lyft Over Weight Discrimination

Detroit, MI – Local plus-size rapper Dajua Blanding, known professionally as Dank Demoss, has filed a lawsuit against Lyft alleging discrimination. Blanding claims her driver refused service because of her weight.

The incident occurred while Blanding was attempting to get a ride to a Detroit Lions watch party. She alleges the driver told her she wouldn’t fit in his sedan.

Blanding, who says she’s ridden in similar vehicles without issue, recorded the interaction. The video reportedly shows Blanding insisting she can fit, while the driver disagrees.

According to reports, the driver cited concerns about his tires and apologized, suggesting Blanding order a larger vehicle. He also promised a refund.

Despite the refund, Blanding says the experience was hurtful. She has since hired legal representation and is suing Lyft for discrimination.

Her attorney argues that weight is a protected characteristic in Michigan, making the driver’s refusal illegal. He compared the alleged discrimination to refusing service based on race or religion.

Lyft issued a statement condemning all forms of discrimination and emphasizing their commitment to respect and kindness within their community. Citing pending litigation, the company declined to comment on the specifics of the incident, but clarified that their drivers are independent contractors.
