Deadly Potato Chips Recalled in Two States

Additional Coverage:

Lay’s potato chips are facing a serious recall due to undeclared milk. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has elevated the recall to its highest risk level, Class I. This means the chips pose a potential risk of death for those with milk allergies.

The recall affects over 6,300 thirteen-ounce bags distributed in Oregon and Washington. These bags were originally recalled last month but the risk level has since been increased.

Consumers with milk allergies should avoid these chips entirely. Even a single chip could trigger a severe reaction.

Lay’s, owned by PepsiCo, urges anyone with these chips to throw them away immediately. The affected bags have a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of February 11, 2025, and a UPC code of 28400 31041. They also carry manufacturing codes starting with 6462307 or 6463307.

A milk allergy differs significantly from lactose intolerance. Milk allergies can cause hives, swelling, shortness of breath, and vomiting.

In severe cases, it can lead to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening breathing obstruction. This severe reaction is why the FDA has upgraded the recall to its highest level.
