Flashfood use saves millions of pounds of food from landfills

It’s a new year, and the cost of food is still on everyone’s minds. One marketplace app seems to be gaining more steam as customers try to fight food costs to feed themselves and their families. Flashfood, an app founded in 2016 to combat the environmental effects of food waste, is offering deep discounts on groceries that are either surplus or nearing their best-by date. Esther Cohn, Flashfood director of communications and public affairs, said the app has expanded and is still expanding in Ohio. “Flashfood is in a time of growth,” Ms. Cohn said. “We are adding more grocery partners as well as shoppers. Since starting in Ohio in 2019, shoppers have saved $15 million in food costs throughout the state; 6.9 million pounds of food has been saved from the landfills.”…
