Two Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority employees are facing charges after allegedly leaking security footage of last week’s midair collision near Reagan National Airport. The footage reportedly showed an Army Black Hawk helicopter colliding with an American Airlines plane before crashing into the Potomac River.
Both men are charged with computer trespass, a misdemeanor. Twenty-one-year-old Mohamed Lamine Mbengue of Rockville, Maryland, was arrested on January 31st.
Following further investigation, 45-year-old Jonathan Savoy of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was also arrested. The leaked footage reportedly ended up on CNN.
The collision tragically killed 67 people. The identification of all victims and debris removal from the Potomac River are ongoing.
Savoy was released on a summons, while Mbengue was booked into the Arlington County Adult Detention Center and later released. Authorities have not released additional details about the leak.
