Lawsuit filed against Eklutna gaming hall a day after media tour

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The State of Alaska filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Native Village of Eklutna, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) for violating the Alaska Native Allotment Act by operating their gaming hall on land that the state claims was unlawfully considered a Native Allotment.

This complaint comes a day after the Chin’an Gaming Hall opened to the media for a tour on Monday.

According to the complaint filed by the state, it says the defendants — in order to conduct gaming on an individually-owned Native Allotment which was leased to the Native Village of Eklutna — had to have messed up previous and longstanding clarification of the law and ignored the recent federal court decision…
