Ellen DeGeneres’ New Mansion Angers English Neighbors

Additional Coverage:

Local residents are reportedly at odds with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi over a home expansion at the couple’s new Cotswolds estate. DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the farmhouse for $18 million in November 2024.

The celebrity couple’s move to the English countryside has been met with resistance from neighbors concerned about the potential impact of their home addition. The primary concerns revolve around increased flood risk and the possibility of disturbing nearby Roman ruins.

Some neighbors believe the extension, along with a hedge and wire fence on the property, could exacerbate flooding issues. They worry debris might accumulate, impeding water flow. Others have expressed concerns about the impact on Roman ruins, although officials have confirmed the ruins are located a significant distance from the property.

According to reports, complaints have been lodged with the local parish council. Council documents emphasize the homeowner’s responsibility to report any discovered historical remains. Three council members reportedly voiced specific concerns about the potential impact on the ruins.

A representative for the West Oxfordshire District Council stated the work on the extension was completed to a high standard. While acknowledging a technical breach of permitted development rights, the council deemed the extension acceptable and closed the case. They confirmed no interference with the Roman ruins.

DeGeneres and de Rossi reportedly relocated to the Cotswolds after the 2024 presidential election. Sources suggest they were disillusioned with the outcome and sought a permanent residence outside the US.
