Game show host Steve Harvey recently shared a hilarious story about a border crossing mishap that could have landed him in jail. Harvey recounted the incident, which happened after a comedy show in Buffalo, New York.
He and fellow comedian Cedric the Entertainer were headed to Canada to visit a casino. Dressed in their post-performance pink suits and carrying large amounts of cash, they were stopped at the border around midnight.
Border patrol agents questioned the pair and conducted extensive background checks. Harvey joked that their attire, which he described as looking like “pimps,” probably didn’t help their case. He even admitted they “looked like drug dealers.”
The situation escalated as officers searched their limousine, cutting open the lining of their coats and causing $12,000 in damages to the vehicle. Despite the extensive search, no drugs were found. Harvey and Cedric were detained for seven hours.
Just when things seemed bleak, a fan recognized the comedy duo. The fan, shocked to see them in custody, explained to the officers who they were.
Harvey expressed his relief, exclaiming, “Thank you, Jesus!” He joked with the fan, saying, “We finna go to prison.”
The fan’s intervention worked. Officers apologized, and Harvey and Cedric were finally released. Harvey concluded the story by acknowledging that the officers were wrong to detain them.
