Mother dies after her child called 911 when she was shot by boyfriend in Pennsylvania, officials report

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A mother of three was pronounced dead shortly after one of her children called 911 when she was allegedly shot by her boyfriend, District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli announced.

Robert Chaplin, 34, of Hollywood, South Carolina, was charged with criminal homicide and had his bail denied by Magisterial District Judge John E. Christner due to the charge based on Pennsylvania laws.

According to Ziccarelli, 911 was called Wednesday night, Feb. 5, by one of Estela Rivera Vasquez’s children after gunshots were heard in the residence on Route 136 in Rostraver Township.

When police arrived, Vasquez was found on the floor of the basement with a gunshot wound to the right side of her chest, the report shows. She was rushed to Penn Highlands Mon Valley where she was pronounced dead an hour later…
