Fresno cyclists demand respect from drivers after road rage incident

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A group of cyclists in Fresno say the city’s drivers need to brush up on the rules of the road after one of their members was sent to the hospital following an incident between the cyclist and the driver of an SUV over the weekend .

On Saturday, a member of the Madtown Rippers cyclist club was put in the hospital following what his fellow members say was a driver’s road rage. According to Fresno Police, the victim was riding with the group at around 2:40 p.m. in the area of Chesnut and Balch Avenues in Fresno. Group members say the driver hit the cyclist intentionally.

“This is a very traumatic situation,” Steve Dunnigan with the Madtown Rippers said. “His son, he rides with us to it. He’s got to deal with that too.”

According to Dunnigan, the group is all about promoting safe and enjoyable rides while following traffic laws – but he says drivers in Fresno have become increasingly aggressive and unwilling to share the road…
