The weather system heading into Lower Michigan appears to now have some of its moisture feed chewed up in Ohio. This is causing a fairly important tweak to the snow forecast for the southern half of Lower Michigan.
We see this often when convection, or thundery activity, just south of Michigan occurs during a winter storm. Winter storms rely on a feed of moisture from the south. When thundershowers in freezing rain in Ohio and Indiana materialize, the moisture feed into the north side of the storm here in Michigan is weakened.
All of the latest data coming in is showing this lack of moisture across the southern half of Lower Michigan. From Saginaw to Big Rapids and southward will still have some snow Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, but I would call it very light snow…
