Rooted in SC: ‘Liberty Hill’ documentary highlights past, present and hope for future

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — North Charleston’s Liberty Hill neighborhood is the oldest community in the city.

Established in 1871, it was founded by Paul and Harriet Trescot, free persons of color, who owned over 100 acres of land. The Trescots later sold the land to Ishmael Grant, Aaron Middleton, and Plenty and William Lecque as a settlement for freedom.
