Norovirus outbreak linked to Louisiana oysters prompts multi-state recall

ALABAMA, USA — Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia are among the states included in a warning about certain oysters from Louisiana which may be contaminated with norovirus.

The oysters were harvested from Louisiana Area 3 between January 10 and February 4. At least 15 people in Louisiana reported norovirus symptoms after eating the oysters in restaurants.

The Louisiana Department of Health has issued a recall for the oysters and closed the area for harvesting for at least 21 days. Affected products include half-shell market, shucked, frozen, breaded and post-harvest processed oysters. The oysters were shipped to distributors, stores, and restaurants in AL, FL, LA, MD, MS, NC, and TX. The FDA is advising restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell and to dispose of, and consumers not to eat, these oysters.
