Still need a REAL ID from RI’s DMV? The countdown is on.

CRANSTON − For many thousands of Rhode Islanders, the front door of the Division of Motor Vehicles has been an early stop in a process that helps them meet new REAL ID requirements for boarding aircraft.

Those requirements, part of an effort to strengthen security and stymie terrorists, are expected to kick in and govern U.S. air travel starting May 7.

But anyone who plans a May 6 visit to obtain a state-issued REAL ID probably needs some schooling on what happens at the front door of DMV headquarters these days:…
