Major popular discount store set to close stores throughout California after bankruptcy

Big Lots is set to shutter several California locations as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, following a challenging retail environment, according to a report in USA Today.

The discount chain, which filed for bankruptcy in September 2024, has already closed over 400 stores nationwide since January 1, with more set to follow.

According to USA Today, Big Lots has launched nationwide “going out of business” sales, with CEO Bruce Thorn stating the company had exhausted all options to remain operational.
