Another atmospheric river is headed to Northern California; Heavy rain, flooding predicted

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Bay Area is in for a major shift in weather this week, as a strong atmospheric river is set to bring heavy rain and potential flooding from Wednesday through Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco.

Cold and dry conditions will persist through Tuesday, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 30s across the region. Half Moon Bay has already recorded its coldest temperature since October, while Santa Rosa’s forecasted low of 29°F may be impacted by lingering northerly winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco.

By Wednesday morning, a zonal jet stream will push a warm front toward Northern California, delivering up to an inch of rain in lowland areas. The Central Coast could see even stronger impacts, with CW3E now predicting an AR3-level event. Rainfall will intensify Thursday, increasing the risk of urban flooding and potential landslides in the coastal mountains, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco.
