LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – We have a busy weather week ahead – with multiple storms systems rumbling across the commonwealth causing snow, ice and flooding rain concerns. Most of the day will promised sunshine and passing high clouds in the Commonwealth. After temps stuck around freezing to start off the morning hours, they will work their way up to peak around the low 40s for our day today. The daytime hours for our Monday will be calm – with most going to sleep before catching any of the storm’s arrival.
A Winter Storm Watch will affect much of the area along I-64 starting at 7pm tonight, with much of Southern and Eastern Kentucky under a Flood Watch starting this evening as well.
Late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, really around midnight, we will see some heavy precipitation reach the state. Moisture is being pushed into our skies from parts of the Tennessee Valley and meet with our colder air mass, allowing most of the state to see snowfall. Significant snow will be in the region between I-64 and the Bluegrass Parkway, with a lot of central Kentucky and eastern Kentucky seeing anywhere between 3-8″ of snowfall. A few areas like Pulaski County, Laurel County, and Clay County will see snow in northern portions of the county, the potential of freezing rain and ice a little farther south, but mainly heavy rain. Flooding concerns paired with heavy rainfall will stay for our southernmost counties in the state. A general 1-3″ of rain is possible across the south and south east, and this is only the first of multiple system in our region. Snow and Rain will continue throughout your Tuesday forecast, only wrapping up post 8pm Tuesday night with a few lingering flurries as the system moves out of our skies…
