WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 36-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested after a chase that reached more than 100 mph and went through two Kansas counties.
At about 3:15 Monday afternoon, a Barton County sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop in Ellinwood, near US 56. The vehicle, allegedly driven by Austin Newton, fled south and reached triple-digit speed. Deputies pursued the vehicle into Rice County and as the the Newton drove through several fields and township roads.
Damage to the vehicle forced its stop on 3 Road in Rice County, and Newton was arrested without incident. He was initially charged with attempting to flee and elude, but officers found nearly a pound of suspected methamphetamine and more than $1,400 in cash inside the vehicle…
