FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni spoke out against Senate Bill 54, which prevents the department from sharing immigration status with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It blocks communication between ICE and law enforcement.
ICE is the only law enforcement agency not allowed to go into county jails in California.
California Senate Bill 54 (SB 54), commonly known as the California Values Act, was passed in 2017 to limit cooperation between state and local law enforcement agencies and federal immigration authorities.
