AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Two area moms are working to help parents who feel they have no other options when faced with hard decisions.
It’s called the Safe Haven Baby Box, which would add a new piece of equipment to the currently active “Safe Haven” law , which allows parents unable to care for children the choice to surrender an infant to an employee at a location such as a fire station or hospital.
“It’s a box that is installed in the side of either a fire department or a hospital,” said McKay Moran, a local mom and business owner who’s one of main drivers of the initiative locally. “It has two doors, one on the outside that is accessible to the mother surrendering a baby, and then one inside the fire department that the firefighters will be able to retrieve a surrendered infant.” Moran told MyHighPlains.com that the box will contain a packet of information for the mother to keep herself safe and healthy…
