CSPD: Victim found dead in car identified as 16-year-old

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A 16-year-old boy found dead in a car after a shooting that occurred near Hancock Expressway and South Academy Boulevard on Saturday, Feb. 8 has been identified, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

According to CSPD, officers responded to the 3700 block of El Morro Road on Saturday around 11 a.m. on reports of shots fired. Officers found evidence that a gun had been fired but found no victims. Around half an hour later, they got another call about shots fired a couple of blocks south of the first location, in the 2600 block of Granada Drive.

When officers arrived, they found two victims inside a car, one dead and the other injured. The injured person was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to CSPD.

On Monday, Feb. 10, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victim as a 16-year-old boy. The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of the death, but it is being investigated as a homicide.
