6th suspect arrested for theft of bronze veterans’ headstone plaques in Iberia Parish; another suspect still wanted

IBERIA PARISH, La. — The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the New Iberia Police Department, has made progress in an investigation involving the theft of military veteran grave markers from cemeteries in Iberia Parish.

Michael “Dookie” Shockley Jr., 34, was arrested following the joint investigation.

Shockley admitted to detectives that he was responsible for removing the grave markers. He has been booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the following charges:

  • Institutional Vandalism
  • Simple Burglary
  • Desecration of Graves
