CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Homeowners could get some much needed breathing room as the Texas Senate voted in favor of a proposal that could help ease what they pay in property taxes.
Senate Bill 4 would allow the state to set the homestead exemption on school district taxes at 140,000 of value. Nueces County Chief Tax Appraiser Ronnie Canales said there are some things to keep in mind.
“It’s strictly for your school districts, it’s not for the county, it’s not for the city or a junior college. What the state is doing is trying to relieve at least one area of taxes that you have to pay,” he said. “The $40,000 addition which will be a total of $140,000, that’s pretty good.”…
