In the face of a severe cold front expected to sweep through Minneapolis on February 18, Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) has announced a closure affecting all its students. The decision to cancel classes was made with student safety in mind, as dangerously icy temperatures pose a risk to those traveling to and from school. According to the Facebook post by Jason Chavez, the school district is not only canceling regular classes but also all MPS-sponsored programs, inclusive of adult education. While the academic facets of the district have shut down in response to the freeze, other components remain in motion. High school sports games, along with adult enrichment classes, and notably, the school board meeting, will continue as scheduled, undeterred by the frigid weather.
