Commerce City police recover ‘nearly half a dozen’ stolen vehicles in one day

DENVER (KDVR) — The Commerce City Police Department had a busy day on Monday, recovering “nearly a half dozen stolen vehicles,” according to a social media post from the department.

Within only one work shift, patrol officers located and recovered nearly half a dozen vehicles including a stolen truck with a trailer attached. The agency did not provide specific numbers on how many vehicles were recovered.

The department said it has new technology that alerts it whenever a stolen vehicle is in the area. It also said that it had prioritized vehicle recovery and wanted to return “what is rightfully yours.”

The post said that the department’s vehicle recoveries are outpacing the amount of vehicles stolen which includes recovering vehicles from other jurisdictions as well. In January, a reported 33 vehicles were recovered and returned to their owners.

Victims who have had their vehicles stolen can appeal to the Brighton Office for Victim Assistance. BOVA offers grant money to those who have had their vehicle stolen and can be used to cover damages, towing, storage cleaning and insurance deductibles, among other things…
