Woman dies after car hits deer and overturns in Lincoln County

A crash early Monday morning on Highway 79 left one woman dead and a man seriously injured after their vehicle struck a deer and overturned.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m., about 1.5 miles north of Foley. A 70-year-old man from Farmington was driving a 2016 Nissan Kicks northbound when a deer entered the roadway. The driver attempted to brake and swerve to avoid the animal, but the vehicle struck the deer and began skidding. The car then veered off the right side of the highway and overturned.

A 73-year-old woman from Elsberry, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel at 6:54 a.m. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by Lincoln County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
