Another round of snow moves into Colorado on Thursday and Friday

DENVER ( KDVR ) — The winter weather isn’t over yet. After a week of freezing temperatures and snow, another winter system is moving in on Thursday, leaving several more inches across Colorado.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were Pinpoint Weather Alert Days for the bitter cold, snow and icy commutes. Over the week, hundreds of flights were delayed, roads were closed and traffic piled up as several feet of snow fell across the state.

Now, the team has issued two more Pinpoint Weather Alert Days as another round of snow coming in.

Timing

Wednesday started chilly with record-breaking lows as cold as minus 7 degrees. Denver will see highs reach the high teens and lower 20s with sunny skies to melt away some of the snow that fell over the past week. However, there’s more winter weather on the horizon.

Wednesday overnight lows dip into the single digits and cold warnings and advisories are in effect for the Eastern Plains through 11 a.m. Thursday, with negative wind chills expected as a winter storm moves into the mountains Thursday morning.

Thursday will warm up to the lower 30s, but the Pinpoint Weather team expects more snow across the Front Range later on Thursday afternoon and to last past midnight.

The Pinpoint Weather team anticipates accumulating snow through Friday morning before a warmup into the 50s and 60s over the weekend.

Totals

Snow is expected to fall from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, leaving between 1 to 6 inches across the state.

Here’s how much snow the Front Range could see:

  • Denver: 2 inches
  • Vail: 5 inches
  • Palmer Divide: 2-6 inches
  • Foothills: 2-6 inches

While less than half a foot of snow is expected to fall across the state during the next round of snow, the added accumulation could cause problems.

What to expect

Wednesday and Thursday morning will be cold with potentially icy roads, but the big impacts come Thursday evening and Friday when the snow moves in.

Did you know? These winter driving ‘tips’ are outdated and unnecessary

Drivers should expect slick roads, potential delays and traffic on the Thursday evening commute, especially later in the night. The Pinpoint Weather team said the snow will continue past midnight, making the roads slick for Friday morning as well.

While the snow is expected to stop before people head out for work on Friday, it’s still cold, meaning the snow will stick and the roads will still be slippery…
