California restarts daylight saving time debate

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — People who are sound asleep on March 9, 2025, will be jolted awake by their alarm going off in what they might believe is a mistake of setting the wrong time, but it will be no mistake as it’s time to spring forward for daylight saving time.

This means it’s time to restart the debate that may feel as old as time itself: should we ditch the switch in California?

Almost every state operates under the Uniform Time Act of 1966, which established the parameters for when to move clocks. Hawaii and Arizona are the only states operating on standard time year-round.
