A federal grand jury has indicted two Rochester, New York, residents accused of providing false information to purchase a number of firearms from gun dealers in the Erie area.
The two, 28-year-old Jasmine O. Caples and 23-year-old Dakota M. Kilanowski, are accused of obtaining the guns in 2022 and 2023 through suspected straw purchases, or the purchasing of a gun for another person. Investigators wrote in case documents that a total of 13 guns were purchased, with four of the weapons recovered in “police-involved incidents” in New York.
Caples and Kilanowski were initially charged in Erie County Common Pleas Court by a Pennsylvania State Police trooper working on a task force with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Kilanowski was initially charged in February 2024, and Caples was initially charged in March. Both were awaiting trial when a federal grand jury indicted the pair on Feb. 11.
