- Drew Carey finally shares his thoughts on retiring from ‘Price is Right’ — and it gets pretty dark (marketrealist.com)
Following the emotional farewell of longtime “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak, “The Price Is Right” host Drew Carey has shared his own thoughts on retirement. And they’re a bit unexpected.
Carey, who took over hosting duties from Bob Barker two decades ago, has become a beloved figure in game show history. Recently, he jokingly stated he plans to host the show until his final breath, even entertaining the idea of dying on stage.
He emphasized his love for the show, praising the cast, crew, and overall positive environment.
Carey’s dedication to “The Price Is Right” was further highlighted as the show approached its 10,000th episode. He expressed his honor and privilege to be part of such a television institution. He stated his intention to continue hosting for another 10,000 episodes, health permitting.
Interestingly, Carey initially declined the hosting offer. He had been looking for more flexible opportunities after his time on “The Drew Carey Show.”
He eventually reconsidered, swayed by the generous salary, which would help him pursue his dream of owning a major league soccer team. The chance to bring joy to contestants by giving away prizes also played a significant role.
Now, Carey considers accepting the hosting position one of his best decisions. He appreciates the work-life balance and the frequent time off it allows him.
