A Virginia fugitive man, Darvin Flores Caballeros, was arrested days after allegedly attacking the mother of his child and abandoning his own 13-day-old in the snow on February 12. Caballeros was arrested approximately 900 miles away in Florida, a state he fled to following the incident.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) shared a statement on social media, detailing how Caballeros was arrested on Thursday, February 20, following a felony stop. Caballeros was wanted after he allegedly assaulted a woman, the mother of his child, on February 12, and left with his newborn baby, only to abandon him in the snow.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Fairfax County Police Department responded to a domestic incident involving Caballeros on the 12th. Allegedly, he engaged in a physical fight with the unnamed woman, dropping the newborn baby as a result. Caballeros reportedly assaulted and strangled the mother of his child and then grabbed the newborn baby and left on foot.
Later in the day, an individual described as a “Good Samaritan” found the 13-day-old boy. The baby was abandoned in a pile of snow. The woman, meanwhile, was transported to a local hospital after suffering “serious injuries” during Caballeros’s alleged attack. Caballeros fled to Florida, 900 miles away from Virginia.
Fugitive Arrested
Eight days after the alleged assault took place, Walton County deputies arrested Darvin Flores Caballeros. He was exiting an apartment located at Santa Rosa Beach on Thursday, February 20, at 11 a.m. Police conducted a “felony stop.” Deputies confirmed that Caballeros was a passenger in the vehicle.
