HONOLULU (KHON2) — The homeowners of the residence that exploded in a frenzy of fireworks on New Year’s Day were arrested on the afternoon of Feb. 23 for fireworks offenses.

The homeowners, a 60-year-old male and female, mark a dozen arrests in the investigation. The other 10 arrested have been released pending investigation.
Two arrests made in connection to deadly Aliamanu New Year’s explosion
The Aliamanu explosion has killed six people so far, including a toddler, and several victims remain hospitalized. The explosion occurred after an aerial cake was lit in the driveway of the residence, where a New Year’s gathering was occurring, when the cake fell on its side and shot aerials into two crates that contained additional explosives, detonating them.
