A powerful winter storm is set to blanket Idaho’s mountainous regions with up to 12 inches of fresh snow, making travel difficult and increasing the risk of avalanches. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the state’s high-elevation areas, warning that heavy snow and gusty winds will create dangerous conditions through Monday morning.
This storm will impact key areas, including the Sawtooth/Stanley Basin and the Sun Valley Region. Forecasters predict that elevations above 7,000 feet could see between 8 to 14 inches of snow, while lower elevations may receive up to 3 inches. Wind gusts up to 40 mph will make conditions even more hazardous, reducing visibility and causing blowing and drifting snow.
