Three American women were found dead at a Belize beach resort over the weekend. Police are investigating the possibility of drug overdoses.
The women, identified as Kaoutar Naqqad, 23, Imane Mallah, 24, and Wafae El-Arar, 26, were staying at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort. Few details have been released.
Resort staff became concerned when surveillance footage showed the women entering their room Thursday night and not leaving. After repeated attempts to contact them Friday, staff entered the room Saturday morning and found the women unresponsive.
While the cause of death is unconfirmed, first responders noted froth on the women’s mouths, a possible indicator of a drug overdose. There were no signs of forced entry or visible injuries.
Snacks, liquids, vapes, and electronic devices were found in the room. The investigation is ongoing.
The women, all of Moroccan descent, were U.S. citizens and residents of Revere, Massachusetts.
Families of the deceased have established online fundraisers to assist with funeral expenses. They described the women as beloved daughters and friends who touched many lives.
Revere Mayor Carlo DeMaria offered condolences to the families.
