Deal protects prison workers during strikes

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)—Correction officers aren’t the only ones who work in state prisons, so do teachers, and nurses, among others. PEF, the Public Employees Federation, represents roughly 5,000 members who work as civilian staff and parole officers. The strikes taking place at prisons across the state have been impacting them as well.

“We have had instances where nurses were told that they should escort male inmates, female nurses, to showers. Not that they are going to watch them take a shower, but to bring them to the shower area in a maximum-security jail,” said Wayne Spence, President of the Public Employees Federation.

He said the act of moving someone who is incarcerated is where a lot of the danger happens…
