Dallas Celebrates Executive Assistant Chief Monique Alex as First African American Woman to Rise Through Ranks

In celebration of Black History Month and in recognition of a notable career advancement, the Dallas Police Department has acknowledged the achievements of Executive Assistant Chief Monique Alex. Appointed in 2024, Alex is the first African American woman to ascend through all the ranks to her current position within the department.

Chief Alex began her journey with the Dallas Police in 1997, starting her beat at the Northwest Patrol Division. Her career trajectory has been diverse and challenging, covering numerous pivotal areas of police work—from Recruiting and Southeast Patrol to Internal Affairs and CAPERS—demonstrating her competence and versatility. These roles, among others, have shaped her into the leader she is today, and now she serves as the Chief of Staff.
