Centennial, Colorado – Perfect Pets, a local pet store, was robbed for the second time this month. Police say the Friday afternoon theft involved a staged medical emergency as a distraction.
Three men entered the store separately, drawing the attention of staff. They inquired about two English bulldog puppies, each valued at $4,299.
Suddenly, one man collapsed, appearing to have a seizure. As employees and customers rushed to help, another man snatched the puppies from a locked pen.
Employees confronted the thief, even tackling him, but he escaped with the dogs in a waiting gold Cadillac Escalade, possibly driven by a woman. One employee was kicked in the face during the struggle.
The man who faked the seizure, 37-year-old Timothy Dais, has been arrested and faces multiple charges including theft and conspiracy. The other suspects remain at large.
This is the second puppy theft at Perfect Pets this month. A previous incident on February 12th involved two women stealing puppies, one of whom concealed a dog in a stroller. Those suspects are also still at large.
Store owner Jens Larsen believes the motive is resale. He is offering a $1,000 reward for each dog’s return and $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects. He expressed concern for the well-being of the stolen animals.
