Fire Captain’s Wife Flees to Mexico After Stabbing

Additional Coverage:

Local authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Yolanda Marodi, also known as Yolanda Olejniczak, in connection with the murder of her wife, Cal Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi. The 49-year-old fire captain was found stabbed to death in her home on February 17th.

Investigators say the couple was experiencing marital problems. Rebecca’s mother, Lorena Marodi, told officials that Rebecca had recently informed Yolanda she was ending their marriage.

Chilling details emerged from home security footage provided by Lorena Marodi. The video reportedly shows Rebecca being chased across her patio by Yolanda, pleading for her life. Yolanda is allegedly seen holding a knife and telling Rebecca, “You should have thought about that before.”

The footage then shows the two women entering the house. A short time later, Yolanda is seen leaving the residence in a silver Chevrolet Equinox, loading various items and pets into the vehicle. Authorities believe she then fled to Mexico.

A text message sent by Yolanda to a friend the following day appears to confess to the crime. The message stated there had been a fight and that she had “hurt” Rebecca.

This is not Yolanda’s first encounter with the law. She previously served an 11-year prison sentence for the voluntary manslaughter of her then-husband, whom she also stabbed to death.

Yolanda is believed to be driving a silver 2013 Chevrolet Equinox with a California license plate. She is also thought to be traveling with a small white dog.

Cal Fire released a statement mourning the loss of Captain Marodi, who served over 30 years with the department. Anyone with information regarding Yolanda Marodi’s whereabouts is urged to contact authorities immediately.
