PPD: Arrest made in connection with Portsmouth double shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A store clerk in Portsmouth had a front-row seat to Sunday’s double shooting at a business on Towne Point Road in which two people were injured and a man who police say was the shooter has been arrested.

According to officials, on Tuesday, Raquan Delvonta Avery, 19, was arrested at his County Street home and charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding, shooting within a building, malicious shooting, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a concealed weapon.

On Sunday, around 9:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shopping center in the 3500 block of Towne Point Road for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both victims are said to be in stable condition.

It happened so quickly, the clerk said she saw very little of what happened, as she was too busy running to the back of the store, grabbing her child and getting out…
